A field watch built for real use

Field watches were designed so soldiers could read the time in a split second, in any light. The Alpha II JDM-WG005-02 keeps that brief: a black dial with a railroad minute track, luminescent sword hands and crisp silver markers.

Alpha II vs. Alpha I

The Alpha II's dial is more technical, and its 40 mm stainless steel case is brushed rather than polished. It's the more utilitarian of the two.

How it's put together

A Swiss quartz movement with date at 3 o'clock sits behind flat sapphire crystal and a screw-down caseback, with a knurled crown for setting. It's rated to 100 m (10 ATM). The bracelet mixes brushed and polished links, measures 20 mm and closes with a deployant clasp. Swiss Made.

Wear it hard

Brushed steel hides small scratches, and the bracelet doesn't care about pools or sweat. This is a watch you don't have to baby.

One trade-off: the polished links on the bracelet will show wear sooner than the brushed case. A watchmaker can refresh them if it bothers you. More rugged picks in our men's sports watches.
