If you only want one Swiss watch, make it one you can wear anywhere. The Alpha I JDM-WG001-09 combines a black sunburst dial, a steel bracelet and enough water resistance for the pool, so it covers the office, the beach and the gym.

Slim and tough

The 40 mm case is just 10 mm thick, so it slides under a cuff. Its satin-brushed steel hides scratches better than a high polish.

By the numbers

Swiss Ronda 515 quartz with date, rated at -10/+20 seconds a month, with a battery that lasts around four years. Flat sapphire crystal, screw-down caseback, 100 m (10 ATM). The three-row bracelet mixes brushed and polished links, measures 20 mm between the lugs and closes with a deployant clasp. Hands, markers and minute track are luminescent.

One habit worth having

Never pull the crown out while the watch is wet. That's the one entry point water can use.
