Spinnaker Fleuss 40 SP-5195-11B Quiet – seconde/seconde 2026 Edition Automatic Watch, 850 Pieces, White Dial, 50 UV Phantoms, Ghost Ceramic Bezel

White is the colour of absence when it is empty and the colour of a kept secret when it is not. The SP-5195-11B Quiet is white in the second sense. The dial is clean — no visible illustration, no colour, no character that would prompt a second look from anyone who does not know what to look for. Under normal light, in natural daylight, at a dinner table or in an office, it reads as a sophisticated automatic watch with an unusual bezel, and that is all. Fifty phantoms are present in the dial at all times, printed in UV-reactive ink, waiting in the white surface. The UV torch included in the box is the only instrument that reaches them.

White as a Design Decision, Not a Default

Most white dials in watchmaking are white because white is legible, neutral, and compatible with most contexts. The Quiet's white dial is white because it conceals. The distinction is significant — it means the dial is doing the opposite of what a white dial usually does. Instead of being the most open and readable surface available, it is the most closed. The fifty phantoms are there, but the white dial does not acknowledge them. It presents itself as complete when it is, in fact, only showing half of what it contains.

This is a specific kind of design intelligence — the decision to use the most apparently transparent dial colour as the most opaque, to hide information in plain sight precisely because white signals nothing to hide. The people who understand what the Quiet is are not the people who can see it from across a room. They are the people who know to ask about the box, who already have the UV torch, who chose this watch specifically because of what it does not show.

The UV Torch — The Watch's Second Audience

The UV torch in the box is not optional equipment. Without it, the Quiet is a beautiful white automatic watch with an unusual ceramic bezel. With it, the Quiet becomes what it actually is: a dial in which fifty phantom characters emerge from a surface that gave no indication of their existence. The contrast between the two states is absolute — there is no gradual reveal, no hint visible at certain angles or in certain lighting. The switch between the white dial and the inhabited dial is the torch itself, on or off.

That binary quality makes the reveal repeatable without losing its effect. Unlike a surface that becomes familiar with repetition, the Quiet's UV reveal remains striking because the starting point — the blank white dial — is always the same. The fifty phantoms never bleed through into normal daylight. They do not become visible with experience or effort. Only the torch reaches them, which means the experience of the reveal is identical the hundredth time as it was the first.

Quiet vs Crazy — Two Philosophies, One Collection

The seconde/seconde 2026 Edition offers a genuine choice that is not simply about aesthetic preference. The Crazy SP-5195-11A carries its fifty phantoms visibly — blue, white, green and yellow on a layered white dial, present in daylight, making no effort to conceal themselves. The Quiet makes the opposite choice in every dimension: invisible phantoms, simpler surface, smaller production run, thinner case. The Crazy is the watch for someone who wants the dial to be interesting every time they look at it. The Quiet is the watch for someone who does not need the dial to announce what it contains.

Both are valid responses to the same brief. But they are genuinely different objects for genuinely different owners, and the choice between them is not a question of which is better — it is a question of which describes the person wearing it.

Ghost Ceramic Bezel and Shared DNA

The white ceramic bezel moulded into a ghost's robe silhouette is the one element that makes the Quiet immediately identifiable as part of the seconde/seconde 2026 Edition even without the UV torch — the profile of the bezel's upper edge, undulating in the way that a draped sheet moves, is visible on the wrist from a distance. Ceramic maintains this profile without scratching or fading over time. In white, it reads as the bezel of a watch that is taking a very specific position on what it is, without needing a coloured dial or visible artwork to make that position clear.

The 40 mm stainless steel case at 11.8 mm thick — marginally slimmer than the Crazy's 12.5 mm — gives the Quiet a profile appropriate to its character: the thinner case sits lower on the wrist, calls less attention to itself from profile view, and wears with a discretion that the Crazy, by design, does not attempt. The Miyota series 9 automatic calibre, visible through the exhibition case-back, runs behind the white dial with the same continuous motion whether or not anyone is looking. The 10 ATM water resistance and anti-reflective box sapphire crystal complete a specification that makes the Quiet a daily watch, not a display piece — though the included glass display dome suggests it can be both.

850 Pieces — The Number That Suits a Secret

The Quiet is limited to 850 pieces — significantly fewer than the Crazy's 1,500. The rarer production run suits the character of a watch that asks more of its owner: not just to find it and buy it, but to engage with it actively, to use the torch, to be the kind of person who wanted the version with nothing visible before they owned the instrument to see what was hidden. The 850 who own the Quiet will have made that choice deliberately. The 1,500 who own the Crazy will have chosen visibility. Both are correct. The numbers reflect the different sizes of those two audiences.
