Spinnaker Fleuss SP-5175-11 Ripped Reality – DoodleBob Skeleton Automatic Watch, 600-Piece Limited Edition

The concept behind the name Ripped Reality is specific. In the SpongeBob SquarePants episode that introduced DoodleBob, the boundary between two worlds — the drawn world of pencil and paper, and the real world of Bikini Bottom — was breached. DoodleBob did not belong in reality. He was a two-dimensional sketch in a three-dimensional world, a character from one layer of existence dropped into another. The tension of the episode comes from that collision of realities, from the impossibility of a pencil drawing trying to function in a world governed by different rules. Me hoy minoy !

The Spinnaker Fleuss Automatic SP-5175-11 Ripped Reality builds its entire design logic around that collision. On the white skeleton dial, DoodleBob's pencil-sketch illustration coexists with the visible mechanics of a Japanese automatic movement beneath it — two realities at different depths, separated by the thickness of an open dial, simultaneously present on the same watch. The skeleton movement is not a decorative choice here. It is the most literal translation of "ripped reality" that watchmaking can produce.

The Skeleton Movement as Narrative Device

A skeleton movement is a calibre whose bridges and mainplate have been cut away — machined to remove all non-structural material — so that the inner workings of the watch are visible through the dial. In conventional watchmaking, the skeleton is used to showcase the craft and complexity of the movement. In the Ripped Reality, it serves an additional function: it makes the watch's concept physically legible.

Through the open white dial, the Japanese automatic skeleton calibre — balance wheel oscillating, escape wheel stepping, rotor turning with each wrist movement — is visible beneath the DoodleBob artwork. The illustration exists on the surface. The mechanism exists in the depth. Between them, the skeleton dial is the torn boundary — the rip in reality through which one world can see into another. It is a remarkably coherent design concept for a pop culture watch collaboration, and it elevates the SP-5175-11 into the most technically considered piece in the DoodleBob collection.

The movement drives three hands only — hours, minutes and seconds. No date complication. This is the correct decision for a skeleton dial: a date window would introduce a visual element that competes with both the artwork and the movement visibility, and would require a date disc that partially blocks the open dial. The absence of a date is a discipline, not an omission.

The Fleuss Platform – Slimmer, Deeper, Different to the Hull

The Fleuss is a distinct Spinnaker platform from the Hull California used in the SP-5174-11 Patty Parade. The differences are meaningful. Where the Hull offered a cushion-case design at 42 mm and 14.4 mm thick, the Fleuss presents a round 43 mm case at 13.2 mm thick — 1.2 mm slimmer, with a more conventional round profile that sits closer to the wrist and wears more elegantly under a shirt cuff. The round case is also the more traditional choice for a skeleton movement, which benefits from the full visibility that a circular dial provides.

The Fleuss's 150-metre / 15 ATM water resistance exceeds the Hull's 100-metre rating by 50% — a meaningful technical upgrade that makes the SP-5175-11 the most water-resistant watch in the DoodleBob collection, despite its slimmer profile. The combination of a 13.2 mm case thickness and 15 ATM water resistance is not easily achieved; it requires precise case engineering that positions the Fleuss as the premium platform in this series.

Bicolour Black and White Bezel – The Only One in the Collection

The bicolour black and white bezel of the SP-5175-11 is unique within the DoodleBob lineup. No other watch in this collection splits the bezel between two colours, and the choice is thematically direct: black and white are the only colours that DoodleBob himself exists in. His pencil-sketch body, his black-line features against white paper — the bicolour bezel replicates that fundamental visual contrast and wraps it around the dial in a format that is visible from across a room.

The bezel's two-tone treatment also functions as a visual shorthand for the "ripped reality" concept: two zones, two states, divided by a line. The black half and the white half do not blend — they coexist with a hard boundary between them, which is exactly the relationship that DoodleBob has with the reality he inhabits. It is a detail that rewards attention, and one that makes the SP-5175-11 immediately identifiable within the collection at a glance.

White Skeleton Dial – Two Layers of Visual Information

The white open-worked dial of the Ripped Reality operates on two simultaneous levels. At the surface: the DoodleBob illustration, the hour indices, and the three hands. Below the surface, through the skeletal openings in the dial plate: the movement itself — the balance oscillating, the gear train engaging, the rotor spinning. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal above the dial ensures that both layers remain sharp and clear without competing reflections obscuring the fine graphic detail of the artwork or the mechanical components beneath it.

This layered visual experience is what distinguishes the SP-5175-11 from every other watch in the DoodleBob series, and from the vast majority of pop culture watch collaborations at any price point. Most licensed watches put an illustration on a solid dial and stop there. The Ripped Reality builds a concept into the architecture of the watch itself.

43 mm Round Case, 150-Metre Water Resistance

The 43 mm stainless steel argenté round case at 13.2 mm thick is the slimmest profile in the DoodleBob collection — a watch that sits flat against the wrist rather than projecting from it, and that transitions between sport and semi-formal contexts more easily than a thicker case would allow. The finishing alternates polished and brushed surfaces across the case body, giving the argenté steel visual depth without requiring colour or coating to achieve it.

At 150 metres / 15 ATM, the Fleuss exceeds ISO 6425 dive watch certification requirements, covering freediving, snorkeling, swimming and all surface water sports. For a watch this slim, this level of water resistance is a genuine engineering achievement and a practical asset for daily wear in any conditions.

Two Straps Included – Steel and White Silicone

The SP-5175-11 ships with both a 22 mm stainless steel argenté bracelet and a white silicone strap. The steel bracelet matches the case material and reads as the more structured configuration — appropriate for contexts where the watch's collector credentials should speak more than its pop culture identity. The white silicone strap echoes the white zones of the dial and bicolour bezel, creating a cohesive monochrome presentation that leans fully into the DoodleBob aesthetic. Both straps are included in the box at no additional cost — a practical commitment to versatility that should be standard at this level but rarely is.

Why the SP-5175-11 Ripped Reality is the Most Compelling Watch in the DoodleBob Collection

The only skeleton movement in the DoodleBob trilogy

The SP-5175-11 is the only watch in this series where the movement is part of the visual design — not hidden behind a solid dial but incorporated into the watch's concept. For the collector who wants the piece in this collection that does the most interesting thing technically, the Ripped Reality is the unambiguous choice.

A concept watch that earns the name

"Ripped Reality" is not a colourway name applied arbitrarily to a watch that happens to have a DoodleBob dial. It describes a specific design decision — the skeleton movement as a literal second reality visible beneath the first — that makes the SP-5175-11 one of the few licensed character watches where the concept and the execution are genuinely aligned.

600 pieces, one skeleton, no reissue

At 600 individually numbered pieces, the Ripped Reality is a limited edition in the substantive sense: a defined production run, a numbered certificate of identity, and a design that will not be repeated once the run is complete. The skeleton movement, the bicolour bezel and the Fleuss platform combine to make this the most technically differentiated watch in the collection — and the one with the strongest long-term collector argument.
